Product Transport and Export

The financial model for the project dictated we focus on an immediate start to mining operations and road transport movements for up to 1Mtpa of sized lump ore either to a nominated port of export, or, as feed stock for coal wash beneficiation at an Australian location.  As highlighted in our presentations, you will find that the workable ports of exit are Mourilyan, Townsville and Abbot Point with berth capacity for 45,000T Handimax, 80,000T and 200,000T Panamax vessels respectively.  Routing to these locations meant minimal upfront capital commitment and assured early cash flow to fund a more aggressive approach to establishing a value add downstream beneficiation plant to service both local and international markets.

Third party interest groups have recently approached us, in confidence, with potential BOO (Build, Own & Operate) schemes to develop a pelletising operation. While evaluating this concept at high level, we alternatively explored the option for a quantum shift to mine, transport and export in excess of 10Mtpa with the State Government, Port Authorities and Queensland Rail.  We received unconditional support from all, however, it was accepted the project needed to mature before undertaking an options study and feasibility study to determine the impact on infrastructure, port utilisation expansion, and, the extent of upgrade required to the existing rail network to facilitate movements of this magnitude. Preliminary arrangements are under way so that these studies commence without delay.
