Background Exploration History Sunday Creek Tenement areas
An historical snapshot of exploration area, Sunday Creek EPM 10078 / EPM 15896 shows that it was originally prospected by Western Mining Corporation Ltd up to 1979 for copper, lead, zinc and silver. Shell Company of Australia took over to the early 80’s and this continued on and off for a further 10 years and in the early 90’s Western Mining was again involved prospecting for gold, followed by CRA Exploration Pty Ltd and then Snowmist Pty Ltd to the late 90’s. As a result of these previous involvements there exists a substantial portfolio of data, assays, air photo interpretations, rock chip and stream sediment samplings, geologist’s map, ground magnetics, diamond and reverse circulation drilling samples.
A summary of pertinent minerals exploration work accomplished by previous companies in the vicinity of EPM 15896 – ‘Sunday Creek’, North Queensland”; was authored by B.M. Nichols Geologist, 6 August 2008. Basically over the last 40 years, A number of major corporations and private companies have spent on the order of $10 million exploring for specific metals within the NW-trending Palmerville Fault Zone adjacent to Sunday Creek. This report should be read in conjunction with various recent exploration reports and results submitted by Montgomery J. Omodei. Individual corporate exploration work is described according to yearly and half-yearly reports submitted
to the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy commencing in 1979 until the present. In particular, from 1982-1984 – AtoP1618: Shell Company of Australia Limited (Shell) flew in the vicinity of the intersection of the Palmerville Fault Zone and the Burdekin Fault Zone, collecting magnetic and radiometric data in the hope of discovering tin-tungsten, skarn-hosted deposits. Interestingly, this aerial survey did discover the intersection of these two fault zones. The aero-magnetics reveal a number of discrete, magnetic anomalies nested within these fault zones.
Total Magnetic Contours by the Shell Company of Australia Ltd - Metals Division 1981
These contours on the map below represent Shell's 1981 unprocessed magnetic data and show that the younger volcanics to the East swamp the magnetic signature of the Whispering Ridge/Snake Ridge trend. However, if you just focus on our NW/SE trend, the mag picture is confirmatory of Whispering Ridge itself and the 15 km linear Snake Ridge mag dipolar disturbance which encompasses our 5 additional ground mag grids.
BHPB Airborne EM Survey Burdekin E (Zone 55) 2005
In 2005 a Geotem airborne electromagnetic / magnetic survey was flown over MDL 298 (originally part of EPM 14965) in northern Queensland (a JV between BHP Billiton and Metallica). The survey was carried out by FUGRO Airborne Systems during August and September 2005. It was known as Burdekin E (Zone 55). This data has now become available to the holder and continues to further verify the Shell and Sam discoveries.
